Manila, Philippines – In recognition of its innovative marketing strategy and consistent excellence in execution of integrated marketing and sales programs that resulted in its unprecedented growth over the four year period 2008-2012, the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA) bestowed the once-in-a-lifetime 34th Agora Award for Marketing Company of the Year to Alaska Milk Corporation.
The Agora Awards is the beacon of Filipino marketing excellence, the highest and most prestigious award in Philippine marketing. In particular, the Agora Award for Markeitng Company of the Year must also be a consistent practitioner of good corporate citizenship.
This year’s Agora Awards was held at The Peninsula Manila Hotel in Makati City last October 9, 2013. The Honorable Senator Ms.Grace Poe-Llamanzares and Former President of the Republic of the Philippines Mr.Fidel V. Ramos graced the event as keynote speaker and honorary Agora awardee for his contribution to nation-building, respectively.
Alaska Milk bested all other marketing companies across different industries who were nominated by the Awards Search Committee and went through a stringent and extensive judging system by a Board of Judges.
Most noteworthy of Alaska Milk’s achievement was its double-digit record growth from 2008-2012, coupled with excellent financial performance. Alaska Milk’s goal was to double its business every five yeras, which it achieved.Furthermore, Alaska Milk received several gold and silver awards for marketing effectiveness of its advertising campaigns and was identified as the top business partner by several key retail accounts during that period.
Alaska Milk President and CEO Wilfred Steven Uytengsu thanked the PMA for the singular honor and cited the Agora Awards for encouraging the drive for excellence in marketing. “This has been a remarkable journey which started forty years ago. When my father started it (the Company), we were primarily a manufacturing-driven organization and then we transformed ourselves into a marketing and sales organization,” said Uytengsu.
Uytensu added that Alaska Milk made optimum use of its resources by being creative in its marketing campaigns and investing in few but impactful initiatives.Uytensgu acknowledged and thanked Alaska’s passionate partner agencies – Lowe/Open, TBWA and M2M Media – who came full force during the awards night to share in the celebration.
In 2009, Alaska Milk’s Marketing Director Ms. Blen M. Fernando was named the Agora Awardee for Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Management and the Tambuli Awardee for Chief Marketing Officer of the Year in 2012, prompting Uytengsu to comment that “Lightning struck twice in the same place.” Uytengsu also said that the biggest reason for the growth of Alaska Milk lies in its people. The Alaska Milk organization works in an environment that imparts the speed of trust while pursuing excellence. “We practice teamwork, discipline, determination and integrity in everything that we do,” he added.
The Alaska Milk team is consistently reminded by Mr. Uytengsu’s philosophy that complacency is the biggest enemy of any organization. This philosophy is inspired by a short and simple quote from Debbi Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies: GOOD ENOUGH NEVER IS.
